Explore

Pivot, Worksheet, and Visualization on a fetched sample. Export and recipes.

Explore is a second window, not a sidebar route. It opens from Query Builder or SQL after a sample is in hand. Pivot, Worksheet, and Visualization all work on those fetched rows. Aggregates belong here, not in typed SQL.

The sample stays put

Tinker with the view as long as you like; Explore does not query the database itself. If you run again in Builder or SQL, a banner offers Refresh sample from those latest results. That refresh still does not talk to the server; it copies the new sample the other screen already fetched.

Modes

  • Pivot: group rows, columns, values, and filters on the sample.
  • Worksheet: a spreadsheet layout, with grouping and calculations on the same rows.
  • Visualization: chart types Auto, Bar, Line, Scatter, Histogram, and KPI.

Click a mark or cell to open Source rows from the sample. Export rows writes those matching rows to CSV.

Export

Export HTML writes the whole exploration into a single self-contained file: tables sort and filter, the chart renders inline, and clicking a mark drills into the same source rows the app would show. Whoever opens it gets the interactivity without a database connection, credentials, or a live query to re-run. Export CSV and, on Visualization, Export PNG and Export chart data are still there, for the traditionalists.

Recipes

Saved recipes keep layout by default: no credentials, no result rows. Optionally Include Builder query, and applying the recipe can restore that spec and Confirm and run it on a selected connection (the same limits and risk gate as any other run). Import and export use .safedb-recipe.json.

Row caps and confirmation still live on Limits & risk model; the builder that produced the sample is Query builder.
